Qing Pan y Jian Tong vuelven a la competición tras un año de lesiones

(03/28/2012) - Qing Pang and Jian Tong have a special connection with Nice: Back in 2000, when the world championships were previously held in the city (and in the same venue), Pang and Tong were already here as competitors.Qing Pang y Jian Tong tienen una conexión especial con Niza: En el año 2000, cuando los campeonatos del mundo se celebraron en la misma  ciudad, Pang y Tong ya estaban aquí como competidores . They are one of only two entrants in Nice this week (Belgium's Kevin van der Perren is the other) to have been there 12 years ago. Son los únicos participantes en Niza esta semana ( junto al belga Kevin van der Perren) que estuvieron hace 12 años.

Since their first trip to Nice, they have won numerous competitions, including two world gold medals (in 2006 and 2010, the Olympic years) and one Olympic silver medal (in 2010). Desde su primer viaje a Niza, han ganado muchas competiciones, entre ellas, dos medallas de oro en mundiales  (en 2006 y 2010) y una medalla olímpica de plata (en  Vancouver 2010).

Icenetwork.com: How do you feel, coming back to Nice after 12 years? Icenetwork.com: ¿Cómo os sentís  de regreso a Niza después de 12 años?

Tong: Indeed, this is our second world championships in Nice. Tong: En efecto, este es nuestro segundo campeonato mundial en Niza. It is very nice to be here again. Es muy agradable estar aquí de nuevo. The city is so beautiful! La ciudad es tan hermosa!.  Lo que esperamos es poder tener un mejor resultado del que tuvimos la última vez! (They finished 15th in 2000.) This competition is the last one of the season, but for us it is the first one. (fueron 15 º en 2000). Este campeonato es el último de la temporada, pero para nosotros es el primero. It is the first one we skate and also the first in importance for us. Es el primero en el que patinamos y también la primera en importancia para nosotros.

Icenetwork.com: Have you been able to take advantage of being in the city already? Icenetwork.com: ¿Habéis sido capaz de tomar visitar la ciudad ya?

Tong: Oh, yes! Tong: Oh, sí! We have been around the city and the area. Hemos estado alrededor de la ciudad y la zona. We could also take advantage of the French cuisine and most important, wine! También pudimos probar la cocina francesa y el vino, lo más importante! This is something that has changed in 12 years for us: In the former years, I used to drink beer, but now I have discovered good wine -- it's so fantastic! Esto es algo que ha cambiado en 12 años para nosotros: En los años anteriores, solía beber cerveza, pero ahora he descubierto el buen vino - es tan fantástico! (He laughs.) (Se ríe.)

Icenetwork.com: Can you talk a bit about the current season, which has been so difficult? Icenetwork.com: ¿Podéis hablar un poco sobre esta  temporada, que ha sido tan difícil?

Tong: We could not skate this year because of our injuries, so it is a rather strange feeling for us. Tong: No pudimos patinar este año a causa de nuestras lesiones, por lo que es una sensación bastante extraña para nosotros. Last July, we went to Canada to create both our programs with Lori Nichol. En julio pasado, nos fuimos a Canadá para crear nuestros dos programas con Lori Nichol. We were so happy, as we really love these programs. Estábamos tan contentos, ya que realmente amamos estos programas. The only problem was that we needed to rest for four months after that. El único problema fue que tuvimos  que descansar durante cuatro meses después de eso.

Icenetwork.com: What about your programs? Icenetwork.com: ¿Qué pasa con sus programas?

Tong: We skate our short program to one of Chopin's nocturnes and our long program to Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade." Tong: Nosotros patinamos nuestro programa corto con uno de los nocturnos de Chopin y nuestro programa de largo con  "Scheherazade". Our free program is really demanding physically, especially for breathing. Nuestro programa libre  es realmente exigente físicamente, sobre todo para la respiración. (He thinks a little, then smiles.) I do not know, maybe it's me -- when I look at Qing, she is always smiling throughout the program. (Piensa un poco, luego sonríe) No sé, tal vez soy yo - cuando miro a Qing, siempre está sonriendo todo el programa. But when I see myself on the pictures and videos, I see myself as exhausted and breathless! Pero cuando me veo en las fotos y videos,  me veo a mí mismo como exhausto y sin aliento! Still, I make efforts to be smiling more. Aún así, yo hago esfuerzos para sonreír más. (He laughs.) (Se ríe.)

Icenetwork.com: You always seem so happy when you skate. Icenetwork.com: Siempre parecéis muy  felices cuando patináis.

Tong: We are happy when we skate. Tong: Somos felices cuando patinamos. We love competing, and also we love to show it. Nos encanta la competencia, y también nos gusta mostrarlo. Also, we are a real couple, you know. Además, somos una pareja real, ya sabes. And Qing is always so beautiful. Y Qing es siempre tan bonita.

Icenetwork.com: What would you like to achieve next? Icenetwork.com: ¿Qué os gustaría lograr ahora?

Tong: We would like to develop our expression even more. Tong: Nos gustaría desarrollar nuestra expresión aún más. We would like to be like real actors, and be able to really interpret the characters of our programs. Nos gustaría ser como actores reales, y ser capaz de interpretar realmente a los personajes de nuestros programas. That would be our goal. Ese sería nuestro objetivo.

Pang and Tong are scheduled to take the ice at 10:11 am ET in Wednesday's short program. Pang y Tong saldrán los últimos al hielo en el programa corto de esta tarde y esperan que el público de Niza, no les haya olvidadoThey will be the last to skate, but the audience of Nice may remember them after 12 years.
